Wynnum Continue Good Form
"Wynnum's A grade side continued its run of good form with its 4th consecutive win on the weekend, moving them to within 1 point of the top 4 of the Barber competition after the first round of fixtures. Wynnum traveled to Redcliffe for the first leg of the "Battle of the Bayside Trophy", Wynnum started the first half where they left off last weekend with an early try in the corner to winger Dan Rassumessen. Ill discipline let Redcliffe back into the game with two penalty goals before continued pressure of the Redcliffe try line produced two penalty kicks to Half back Matt Myers with Wynnum going into the break with an 11-6 lead.
The second half saw Wynnum produce its best defensive effort of the season continually halting Redcliffes attack with stinging defence. When Wynnum finally made it into the attacking half they capitilized with a try to winger Mitch Regler which was converted by Matt Myers to give Wynnum a 18-6 lead. In the dying seconds Redcliffe scored a controversial try to allow them to close the game to 18-13.
Wynnums B Grade side scored a comprehensive bonus point 26-0 win over Pine Rivers Pumas to cement a top 3 position.
Wynnums Colts team unfortunately had a tough 60-22 loss to Redcliffe.
In exciting news for Wynnum Rugby club 5 players have been selected in the Queensland Suburban side to face NSW Suburban this Saturday 4th June at Ballymore, kick off is 2pm. Backs Matt Myers and Aaron Savage as well as Forwards Shane Heteraka, Kieran Macdonald and Matt Wieland all selected. There is no Entry fee and all supporters are encouraged to get out and support the QLD Team in the annual Barraclough Shield Clash."
